Gum Box Tutorial by Jackie Rakoski

This month, our Fabulous DT member, Jackie Rakoski, is showing you how to make a gum box holder- perfect timing for Halloween and Christmas treats- and perfect for our newest Holiday sets!

Materials Needed:

Pack of Gum
4" x 8 1/2" CS Base
2 3/4" x 8 1/2" Decorative Paper
2 7/8" x 8 1/2" Mat CS Paper
Scor-Pal (or bone folder)
Nestabilities
Scissors
Double Sided Tape
Magnets
Adhesive
Ink
Stamps - I used Halloween Hauntings

1. Holding the paper with the 4" piece Score the paper at 1/2" and again at 3 1/2"

2. Rotate the paper 90 degrees and score the CS base at 2 1/2", 3", 6", and 6 1/2"

3. Cut paper at 2 1/2" - 3" till the 1/2" and 3 1/2" and again at 6" till the end of the paper till the 1/2" and the 3 1/2"

4. Use one of the circle Nestabilities to create the cover, placing the paper only half way into the Nestability so that only part of the paper gets cut.

5. Fold the paper on all the folds to begin forming the box.

6. Create covers for the outside of the box, including creating the top cover, once again using circle Nestabilities to cut only part of the paper.

7. Attach all the paper mats to the box.

8. Use double sided tape on the inside fold of the box. Place the gum box into the box your creating and attach the box around the gum box.

9. Attach your magnets to the box.

10. Decorate the box with stamps as you desire. I used one smaller image on the cover, with a matching sentiment, and a larger image on the back cover.

Blog Hop With Artful INKables today!

So did Joy's "Sneak Peeks" whet your whistle for today's New Release Blog Hop? I sure hope so because I know the INKgirls and I have been dying to share our samples with you! This is our first release that feature sets for specific up and coming Holidays. In the past I've been a bit wary to make sets with a limited time appeal but if these are popular, I'm sure there will be more!

The sets being released are called Halloween Hauntings, and Holiday Treats and Tails. Though they are holiday specific, I hope you are excited by the different elements in these sets. For instance, I'm so excited about the Little Reaper and the Evil Cat in the Halloween set...they are just a bit off the norm to be really fun. And as the INKgirls said after seeing the Christmas set...Holiday Beavers? Who'd have thought...but they are so adorable! Please visit the home page here http://www.artfulinkables.com/ to see all the elements of these 2 new sets.

For my samples today, I used the Halloween Hauntings set:

I had no Halloween themed paper so, for the first time, I DL'ed some from the net! I did a google search and found a site last week...and now, of course, I cant find where I got it from! *rolling my eyes*

The little Jr Reaper is featured in this card, along with the 'batty moon' and the "Reap Well..." sentiment. I stamped him with black Momento ink on Old Olive card stock and then colored his face and feet in with a white gelly roll pen. I outlined him a bit with a green marker to make him stand out from the background and gave him a hill to stand on. The moon was stamped on white, colored, cut out and glued onto the cs with the reaper. Sponging was added, along with the little tag and some paper layering. The cute ribbon I used is one of the new styles we are now carrying from May Arts. It has a beautiful metallic shine on some parts and comes in 8 different colors. We also have a fun new skull charm but we didn't get them until after I made the cards, so I couldn't use one.

The main image on this card was stamped on white card stock with black ink and then I stippled on some grey ink to give it a hazy, spooky look. The windows were colored in with yellow and the fog swirls were added using a white Galaxy Marker. The moon was stamped over the gnarled tree and shaded using copic markers. The rest is pretty obvious but it was all tied together using some black velvet rick-rack I found in my ribbon basket.

Hope you've enjoyed my samples but it is time to move on and see what the INKgirls have to share with you. Hop on over to Joy's blog next and be sure to hop and comment all the way to the end...as usual there will be prizes!

Check Out the NEW & Improved Website!

Today we launched a new version of our website and we are so excited to share it with you! We really felt that we had outgrown the older site, it just wasn't user friendly for both our customers and for us. Our new site looks similar in some ways, like the Home Page but as you delve deeper you will see all the great improvements.

Now you can register with Artful INKables, keep a full shopping cart (even if you leave and come back), visit the easier to use inspiration gallery with multiple viewing choices, check out the AI forum (coming soon) and find out what's going on with the AI calendar. Also our improved navigation should make it alot easier to find all that you are looking for in the store.

Over the next week or so, the gallery will be completed, the forum will get up and running and the payment options will expand. For now, payments are taken through Paypal, though you DO NOT have to have an acct with them. You can just use your Credit Card without registering with Paypal.

Though we are not quite finished with all of the new aspects of the site, we hope you will take a look around and enjoy!

Box it up.....

Our DT member Jackie Rakoski is giving us some more inspiration for our Think INK box or bag challenge using one of the newest releases, Steampunk Sarah. How great is this for a gift set??!! You still have time to enter, GO, CREATE, TELL YOUR FRIENDS!

Time Flies...

Happy Labor Day Weekend everyone. Sorry I have been MIA for a bit, but our Sr. DT has been doing a great job sharing projects to inspire and creating challenges for you. They are quickly becoming quite indispensable to me! (Which is wonderful since I have been busy dealing with a family with the flu, relocating my office and getting through the back to school rush!)

So today, was the first day in a looooooooonnnngggggg while that I have had a chance to create. In fact it was my first creation in my new studio, and I quite enjoyed both the process and the result. I was inspired by a sketch challenge that Sherry shared on her blog today which can be found here: Weekend Sketch. I loved the partial circle portion of the sketch since it brought to mind a clock face, which then made me think of my current favorite set, Steampunk Sarah. Then out came some great embellishments that I 'rediscovered' during my office move and this fun collage-y card was born:

Im afraid I dont have too many details to share on the materials used for this card. The clock themed paper came from a generic paper pack at Michael's, the large clock face is from Li'l Davis Designs, the gold one came from my stash and the little black pocket watch is from a decorative button pack I picked up somewhere. The other clock face is an image from our Steampunk Sarah set, as are all the other images and the sentiment. I used brushed gold and Chocolate Chip cardstock from Stampin' Up! and the clock hands are the prongs of brads, lol. I had nothing else to fill in those brad holes *grin*.

I colored Sarah and the watch-cog piece using copic markers and a Gelly Roll Sakura glitter pen. For the gear/cog piece, I added dimension by stamping parts of it 3 times and layering them over each other. Here is a closeup of that part:

There are actually quite a few popped up parts on this card as you can see in the picture below. I made the banner look wavy by rolling it around a marker in different directions, attached it under the clockface with glue dots and at one tip to the card. Sarah is also popped up using dimensionals.

Thanks for looking and have a great last Summer-blast weekend.

Here's some inspiration from our DT member, Lisa Kind, for the Think INK challenge of making a box or bag using one of the latest releases, Fun & Friendly...how perfect is this for a fall gift!? You still have plenty of time to get your entries in!
